Mongrels Baseball

welcome

In 1984 Adam Cox began select baseball coaching with his life-long buddy, (and obnoxious Red Sox fan) Tom Howard, while being an elementary teacher in the L.I.S.D. Ten years later, Coach Cox established the Mongrels playing out of Euless, Texas. And yes, Howie (that obnoxious Red Sox fan) followed him like a mangy old dog with no home. Compounding and adding to the pack was his whiney (New York Yankees fan) little brother, Todd.

In 2000, Coach Cox moved to the baseball community of McKinney, Texas where he has umpired Select ball, Little League Regional World Series, and High School baseball along with the Mickey Mantle World Series.  Being the baseball hub of North Texas, McKinney has notable figures such as; Gabe Nesbitt, Lindsey Gunter, BJ & Denny Dixon and Al Alford with renown umpires Craig Pelt, Warren Hutcherson, David Montgomery and Dennis Wyatt.

After coaching the McKinney Redhawks 12U team to a League Championship, Coach Cox then went back to reestablish the Mongrels when his son started playing baseball at the age of 4. After several years coaching his son with the Recreational Reds team and the Select McKinney Mavericks team, he decided it was time to get back to that "mean old dog that only loves you"...The Mongrels.

With 13 League and 5 Tournament Championships on the shelf, The Mongrel philosophy is to empower our boys with the proper mechanics and fundamentals to make the High School team if so desired. As a High School umpire, Coach Cox and his staff (also having years of umpire experience) know that High School Coaches are paid to win.

As a parent, we invite you to debate between these two ideas...Is it more important to have a closet full of trophies (dust collectors) at 10, 11, 12 and 13 years of age? Or, when the time comes for your son to tryout as a freshman, he is called back to play because he has superior mechanics and instinctively knows the fundamentals because it has been engrained in him much like a martial artist?

With a passion for excellence, success, an understanding of the big picture of baseball and the lifelong pursuit it becomes for those that truly excel, we don't limit our measurement of success by only a season record. We develop baseball players who excel both on and off the field not only in their youth, but also in high school and beyond. This requires superior mechanics and engrained training that serves them as young boys and builds the foundation for a successful baseball career in high school.
Conviction is worthless unless it is converted into conduct. All the wins and losses will fade away...what will remain will be the true Christian relationships we have with our athletes.

If you want a shiny trophy now to make you feel warm and fuzzy, we are not the team for you.

If you want your son to know the academics of baseball, what is expected of him and to be prepared as a High School baseball player...THIS is the McKinney Mongrels.

1 Corinthians 15:57 – thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
