Ernie Power loved baseball. The Ernie Power Fund goes to families and players of the McKinney Mongrels that have the passion and desire for select baseball, but may not have the financial resources. The Ernie Power family sponsors boys to help cover their select baseball fees. If you share Ernie's passion you can make a tax-deductible donation in his memory to the McKinney Mongrels.
McKinney Mongrels ordered our Texas License Plate for our Tournament Travel bus. We wanted Mongrel, but could only use 6 letters. DAWGS was taken so Coach Cox added Number 21 in honor of his favorite player Roberto Clemente. Here is your first look at our personal license plate for the McKinney Mongrels Travel Bus.

What is a Mongrel?
While at tournaments umpires, parents and players often ask us what a Mongrel is. So here is the official definition from Wikipedia. Mongrel refers to mixed ancestry:
1) A Giant Gorilla Dog Thing (Sandlot movie quote from Benny the Jet when describing the Beast to the Babe).
2) In botany, a mongrel may refer to the offspring of varieties of a species which was in contrast to a hybrid
3) Among pets, one whose parentage is of unknown or mixed breeds as opposed to purebred.
4) Among humans, mongrel and mongrelize are derogatory terms for the mixing of "races", known as miscegenation.

MONGRELS, "DID YOU KNOW?"
Hooch from the movie "Turner and Hooch" is a "Dogue de Bordeaux". Bordeaux Mastiff or French Mastiff is one of the most ancient French breeds.
