Our approach to the disciplines of baseball is much like those of martial arts. BALANCE! Without balance at all times, a player cannot be effective. Balance is achieved only through correct body alignment. The feet, the legs, the trunk or core, and the head are all important in creating and maintaining a balanced position. They are the vehicles of force and velocity! Finally, we never accept laziness and we practice like we play. To be considered a McKinney Mongrel, here are the team priorities:
1) At all times academics come first!
Mongrels must maintain A/B grade point average. We hold our Mongrels accountable to the same High School academic standards of No Pass, No Play.
2) Respect of fellow Players, Parents & Coaches.
A player may be benched at anytime for academics, dysfunctional and/or un-Christian-like behavior.
3) Listen and Apply the Mechanics.
We do not accept excuses. We hold our players and parents accountable in all aspects of the game and life.
4) Practice is essential.
If a player misses a practice for any reason, there is no guarantee that he will be able to play in the next game. Players should attend practice consistently to be considered for starting positions. Show up in a timely manner. For unforeseen circumstances a parent phone call is required and the player better be hustling into practice, not walking! Do not show up late to practice and come walking in! Communication from your parents is a must.
5) We play for Him!
The McKinney Mongrels dedicate and play our season in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The McKinney Mongrels have formed a strategic alliance with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA is the largest Christian sports organization in America. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:57 – Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
6) The Coach Cox Law.
Coach Cox’s McKinney Mongrel teams are all set to the same standards of work ethic, respect, attendance, mechanics, passion, communication, working out at home, academics, listening, applying, paying attention, hustle, and leadership. Any player or parent not displaying the Mongrels standards at anytime will simply get the Coach Cox Law, "Thank you son, I've seen enough. Please gather your belongings and you are dismissed."
